ABOUT Thomas Lang

Austrian Drummer Thomas Lang began drumming at age 5 and then took classical lessons at the Vienna Conservatory of Music. He has played as a session musician for several notable artists, including Paul Gilbert, John Wetton, Sugababes, Geri Halliwell, Steve Hackett, Falco, Nina Hagen, Steve Jones, the Commodores, George Michael, B*Witched, Gianna Nannini, Westlife, Greg Howe, Vienna Art Orchestra, Bonnie Tyler, and many more. Lang released his debut solo record Mediator in 1995 and co-founded the Los Angeles progressive metal band stOrk in 2009.


As an educator and author, Lang turned his practice routine into a 2-part instructional video series Ultimatives Schlagzeug Part I and II. Other releases include the DVDs with accompanying books Creative Control and Creative Coordination and Advanced Foot Techniques. In 2007, Lang started the Thomas Lang Drumming Boot Camp, an intensive drumming experience he has taken to 35 countries. He likewise started The Big Drum Bonanza–a multi-day, multi-drummer festival. As a clinician, Lang embarked on the largest tour in drumming history–providing 220 clinics in nearly 50 countries. He has done clinics at the Modern Drummer Festival, PASIC, Laguna Beach Drum Fest, Seoul Drum Fest, and many others around the globe. In 2022, Lang began work on MyGroove–an impressive educational platform owned by Red Bull. His Thomas Lang Drum Academy is the central repository of Lang’s educational work.
