Presented each year at PASIC, the Symphonic Labs provide participants with a hands-on opportunity to refine orchestral excerpts in an interactive setting with leading symphonic percussionists.
Applicants must be registered for PASIC50, may select only one excerpt, and will be selected on a first-come, first-served basis.

About Marcelina Suchocka
Born in Bialystok, Poland, Marcelina Suchocka is the Principal Percussionist of the Sarasota Orchestra. Ms. Suchocka enjoys a diverse career spanning orchestral, chamber, new music, and solo playing. She was a fellow at the New World Symphony in Miami and has performed with the Cleveland Orchestra, New York Philharmonic, Chicago Symphony Orchestra, Los Angeles Philharmonic, National Symphony Orchestra, Dallas Symphony, Detroit Symphony, Kansas City Symphony, Utah Symphony, and the Florida Orchestra. She has also performed as soloist with the Chicago Symphony Orchestra playing the Koppel Marimba Concerto.
Ms. Suchocka has spent summers as a fellow at the Tanglewood Music Center, Pacific Music Festival, Music Academy of the West, National Repertory Orchestra and Spoleto Festival.
Ms. Suchocka is one of the founding members of Excelsis, an all-female percussion quartet based in New York City. She is also a founding member of Pathos Trio, which is a NYC based group whose focus is to play new commissioned pieces and mix styles of music. She also performs as a member of ensemblenewSRQ in Sarasota.
Ms. Suchocka is a graduate of the Manhattan School of Music.

About Michael Rosen
Michael Rosen is Emeritus Professor of Percussion at Oberlin Conservatory of Music, where he taught from 1972–2021 and founded the Oberlin Percussion Group. Before going to Oberlin he was Principal Percussionist with the Milwaukee Symphony from 1966–72. A native Philadelphian, Rosen was a student of Charles Owen, Cloyd Duff, Fred Hinger, Tom Siwe, and Jack McKenzie.
He has performed with the Cleveland Orchestra, the Concertgebouw Orchestra, Grand Teton Music Festival, and the Metropolitan Opera Orchestra.
He has been on the PAS Board of Directors several times and is associate editor of Percussive Notes magazine, where he has a continuing column titled “Terms Used in Percussion.” In addition to being in demand as a clinician for cymbals and marimba, he has recorded for Bayerische Rundfunk, Opus One, Albany, Lumina and CRI labels. In 2019 he was inducted into the PAS Hall of Fame. Rosen has concertized and taught extensively throughout the world including France, Italy, Holland, Spain, Brazil, Sweden, Belgium, Denmark, Germany, Finland, Beijing, and Hong Kong.
Participation Details
Symphonic Labs are open to students age 18-26. Excerpts will be assigned on a first come first serve basis.
PAS Membership
All registrants must be current members of the Percussive Arts Society through November 30, 2025. Participating students can join PAS, or renew their membership here.
PASIC Registration
All registrants must be registered to attend PASIC50 in order to apply for the Symphonic Labs. Registrants can register for PASIC50 here.
