ABOUT David Chiverton

The beat of a drummer’s soul could not have been placed in a more incomparable percussionist than David Chiverton. David is a Miami native groomed and nurtured by his loving parents. With his mother being an Assistant Pastor of a local South Florida Pentecostal church, David was surrounded by the sound of gospel music during his childhood. In church is where he recognized his passion for drums and began playing at the age of 5 years old.

By the age of 12, he was introduced to the music and ministry of Pastor Marc Cooper and Cooper Temple COGIC. This gave him the opportunity to be featured on his Gospel project titled “Jesus Is The Real Thing by The Miami Music Workshop Choir.” From then, he became the full-time drummer for Cooper Temple COGIC. Despite his age, he was well respected by his peers as a professional percussionist and his journey in the industry began. He later attended Miami Northwestern Senior High where he became a member of the marching band and the well-respected jazz ensemble.

At the age of 16, David began to pique the interest of many recording artists desperate for the pure sound of his classic gift. He was the featured drummer on projects for artists such as the Stellar Award winning Miami Mass Choir, Lanoris McFadden and Proof, and Danny Smart. Upon graduating from high school, he was offered a full academic scholarship to Florida International University (F.I.U.) and a position as a key player in the university’s BigBand.

While focusing on his college career, David felt the desire to venture into other styles of music, to create a more diverse repertoire. David linked up with super producer of Miami Florida, “Bigg D,” where he was the featured drummer every Wednesday night at Miami L.I.V.E at Santos Miami. With this weekly club gig, David has shared the stage with artists ranging from “John Legend” to “Lil Wayne.”

David completed a life goal, and walked across the stage and received his Bachelor’s Degree in Music, April 2010. He is currently touring internationally with various talents and has been highlighted as one of South Florida’s greatest musicians. He is also currently an adjunct professor at The Frost School of Music at The University of Miami in the Jazz Department where he teaches multiple assembles, as well as applied jazz drum lessons. David has always remained humble and passionate and has vowed to dedicate his life to his growing family and music.
