Vina Lacerda
Vina Lacerda is a musician, educator, and cultural producer. He completed a Bachelor’s degree in Symphonic Percussion and a specialization in Teaching at the State University of Paraná (UNESPAR). He holds a Master’s and a PhD in Music from the Federal University of Paraná (UFPR). He was a member of the String Ensemble Orchestra and the Wind Ensemble of the Curitiba Popular Music Conservatory (CMPB), performing with renowned artists from the music scene. He is a percussion professor at CMPB and a collaborating professor in the Popular Music program at UNESPAR, FAP campus. He conducts research on music education and Brazilian percussion, with published methods and apps. He has participated in major music festivals in Brazil, Latin America, the United States, and Europe. He has performed on dozens of CDs with local artists, as well as on soundtracks for film and theater. He is a member of the group Mano a Mano Trio and the founder of the Curitiba International Percussion Festival.

The World of the Brazilian Pandeiro

This workshop is dedicated to the musical universe of the Brazilian pandeiro. Through a historical approach, the instrument is presented by listening to and performing works associated with some of the most important Brazilian pandeiro players of the 20th century, who helped transform the pandeiro into a symbol of Brazilian music and percussion.
Along this path, Vina Lacerda presents the praxis of the pandeiro known as “leather-headed,” “choro,” “samba,” “Brazilian style,” “modern,” and “low-pitched” — terms that refer to a single instrument that holds a central place in Brazilian popular music.
The workshop proposes recognizing these musicians as repositories of singular forms of knowledge, true living archives of a body of understanding fundamental to the teaching and practice of the Brazilian pandeiro. Thus, through these bodies of knowledge, Vina Lacerda proposes a way of thinking about the instrument beyond performance, highlighting the musicality of figures from the past and present in the construction of Brazilian pandeiro musicality.
