
Tommy Wasiuta
Tommy Wasiuta, a "breath of dance freedom" (New York Times) is a tap dance artist based in NYC. His album “Drum Shoes” (2024), explores the tap shoes as a stand-alone instrument. His stage credits include The Joyce Theater, 92NY, Little Island, Jazz at Lincoln Center, and American Dance Festival, performing under the direction of artists like Michela Marino Lerman, Max Pollak, Luke Hickey, and Ulysses Owens Jr. Tommy has choreographed and performed the entirety of the Tap Dance Concerto with the Saint Joseph Symphony. His passion for tap dance is shared through his work as an educator, teaching at Steps on Broadway, the Joffrey Ballet School, and New York University. Hailing from St. Louis, MO, he is a co-founder of the St. Louis Rhythm Collaborative. Tommy is an alum of The School at Jacob's Pillow and the University of Missouri – St. Louis.
Tap Shoes as a Percussive Instrument
Session Description:
Tommy will play an original composition titled “St. Charles” from his solo tap dance album “Drum Shoes”. The album was inspired by solo drum set albums, with the goal of showcasing the tap shoes as a stand-alone percussive instrument.
