This session presents Sauti Duo’s interdisciplinary exploration of individual and collective responsibility through contemporary percussion performance. The duo’s ongoing research connects philosophy, ecology, and social awareness, translating complex questions into immersive, sensory experiences.
From a practical perspective, members of Sauti Duo will present their creative process for two projects of this type. #Ecosophy (premiered in 2023) reflects on environmental issues through music, incorporating elements of performance, audience participation, electronics, and theatricality. The second project, currently in development, -ZARU, is created in collaboration with a Butoh dancer (Tania Garrido) and composer (Alina Dzięciol) and explores the concept of “aware ignorance.”
These projects represent a continuous line of research exploring the role of music as a medium for social reflection and the evolving dynamics between performer and composer. The research examines the role of the performer in these projects—as co-creator, actor, and interpreter—as well as the collaborative relationship between performer and composer during the creative process. Finally, it investigates how music can be explored in different ways as a tool for social reflection, based on examples of pieces composed for Sauti Duo in the #Ecosophy project.

As part of their musical program, the duo will present three compositions commissioned for the #Ecosophy project:
