East Texas A&M University
The East Texas A&M University Percussion Ensemble, directed by Dr. Brian Zator, stands as a dynamic and innovative force within the realm of percussion. With a commitment to musical excellence, artistic exploration, and the cultivation of talent, this ensemble has established itself as a vibrant and integral part of the university’s music program. Performing a wide array of musical genres and styles, their repertoire includes both traditional orchestral percussion and contemporary compositions, reflecting their broad range of artistic interests. The ensemble’s performances extend beyond the local stage, as they have been featured at notable conferences and events. They have performed at PASIC in 2023, 2010 and 2000 as IPEC winners, in 2006 for a clinic/concert of “New and Unknown Works by Minoru Miki”, as well as multiple Small Chamber Ensemble Competitions. They have also been featured at the Texas Music Educators Association (TMEA) Convention multiple times, CBDNA, The American Prize, and various other conferences and events. These appearances provide opportunities for the ensemble to share their musical talents and connect with wider audiences. In addition to their performances and four CD’s, the ensemble engages in educational initiatives. Through commissioning new music, being involved in consortiums, and leading recording projects, they contribute to the advancement of percussion education and inspiring fellow percussion students and educators. While rooted in the university’s music program, the three Percussion Ensembles, two Steel Drum Bands, Drumline, and six percussion faculty members provide opportunities that extend beyond academia. The studio’s commitment to musical exploration, performance excellence and educational focus positions them as a respected presence within the percussion community, leaving a lasting impression on both local and broader musical landscapes. The East Texas A&M Percussion Studio is supported by Innovative Percussion, Sabian, Evans Drumheads, Black Swamp Percussion, and Ensemble Block.
