Here you will find important information about schedules, competition procedures, check-in, warm-up areas, performance logistics, and what to expect during the event. Please review this information before arriving so you know what to expect and are prepared for your competition.

On-Site Details

  • Do NOT use Maryland St. for loading or unloading.
  • I&E and CCPEC groups receive a Competition Pass that allows temporary parking on the Tarmac during their competition timeframe.
  • Upon arrival, show your printed or digital Competition Pass (attached PDF) to the Security Guard at the Tarmac entrance. If you can’t print it beforehand, copies will be available onsite.
  • The guard will direct you to a guide who will assign your unloading space.
  • The Competition Pass must stay visible on your dashboard while you are on the Tarmac.

Instrument Logistics

Please review the instrument logistics information below if your group is borrowing or lending instruments for PASIC 2026. These procedures will help us coordinate equipment and ensure everything is available when needed throughout the convention.

All borrowed instruments will be located in the designated instrument pickup area next to the registration desk.

  • One person from your group must provide a valid ID for PAS staff to hold while your group has borrowed instruments.
  • Your ID will be returned once all borrowed instruments have been returned.
  • Please collect only the instruments assigned to your group.
  • As soon as your performance is finished, please return all borrowed instruments to the designated pickup and return area as soon as possible. Other groups may be scheduled to use the same equipment, so prompt returns are essential to keeping the competition running smoothly.
  • Please make sure all borrowed instruments are returned before requesting the return of your ID.
  • Treat all borrowed equipment with care and respect. These instruments are generously loaned to PAS for use during the competitions.
  • Do not place anything on instruments.
  • Keep food and drinks away from all instruments and equipment.
  • Use appropriate mallets for each instrument.
  • Use soft mallets on the low end of marimbas.
  • Avoid excessive force when playing. Use appropriate playing techniques to prevent damage to bars, drumheads, and other instrument surfaces.
  • Never push or pull timpani by the rim. Always use the struts.
  • Do not overtighten wing nuts or hardware. Excessive force can damage threads and instrument components.
  • Report any damage, loose hardware, or other concerns to PAS staff immediately.

Groups lending instruments to PASIC 2026 will have a designated, taped-off storage area in Expo Hall B, this year’s logistics room, specifically assigned to their school.

  • Please bring your equipment to Expo Hall B by the time you indicated it would be available for PAS to borrow.
  • Each school’s designated area will be marked off for equipment storage.
  • If possible, we ask that borrowed equipment remain in the logistics room for the duration of PASIC, except when your group needs it for its own performance.
  • The PASIC logistics team will retrieve the necessary instruments from the designated storage areas when they are needed for scheduled performances and events.
  • Please ensure your equipment is clearly identifiable and stored within your school’s designated area.
  • Thank you for helping us coordinate equipment for PASIC 2026. We appreciate your flexibility and support in making sure participating groups have the instruments they need.

Schedules

Guidelines

  • The Concert Chamber Percussion Ensemble Competition will take place on Thursday and Friday, Nov. 12 & 13, 2026. Ensembles are divided into High School and University/College divisions, with University/College ensembles performing on Thursday, Nov. 12, and High School ensembles performing on Friday, Nov. 13. Each ensemble must consist of 3–8 performers per piece. The competition will be held in one of our clinic/concert rooms, featuring theater-style seating for up to 500 audience members.
  • Directors and all ensemble members must be current individual members of the Percussive Arts Society, or part of an active Group Membership, through November 30, 2026. It is the Director’s responsibility to verify all ensemble participants are active PAS Members prior to submitting the roster. Participating students can join PAS, or renew their membership, at pas.org.
  • All staff, crew, and accompanying family members must have a credential for entry. Anyone traveling with the group may help move, set, and strike gear to and from the performance area, but must have a credential (this can include a single-day wristband, or PASIC badge). Staff, crew, and accompanying family members may purchase Four-Day badges for $100, or Single-Day badges for $50, onsite or in advance. Badges allow access to all PASIC activities for their designated days. Wristbands, which grant access to the CCPEC event and the PASIC Expo Hall for a single day, can also be purchased for $25 in advance, or onsite.
  • PAS and the Percussion Ensemble committee will communicate with competing groups to minimize the number of large instruments (i.e. keyboards, timpani) that ensembles will have to travel with. Please consider how you will be able to travel with any non-keyboard type instruments when choosing your repertoire.
  • Participating ensembles must have no less than 3 and no more than 8 players per piece. You may choose to perform more than one piece in your allotted time, which can include a different set of players. This competition EXCLUDES contemporary marching percussion instrument ensembles, such as cymbal, bass drum, marching snare, and tenor ensembles.
  • The use of electronics is allowed. PAS will provide speakers for the competition room, should the ensemble choose to use them. The ensemble is responsible for playback device(s) (computer, interface, patch cables, etc.), set up, and testing of playback device(s) in the allotted setup time. Model specific information about the speakers will be available to the ensemble in the ensemble’s PASIC competition packet.
  • All ensembles will have a 15-minute interval, which includes set up, performance, breakdown, and the removal of all members and equipment from the performance area. Performances can include however many separate selections you choose, within the 15-minute interval. Failure to adhere to the time limit will result in a penalty as indicated below.
  • Ensembles may NOT perform with a conductor. Manipulation of room lighting is prohibited. Performance area dimensions will be available at a later date. Music stands will be provided in the warm-up and performance areas.
  • 0.2 point for every 15 seconds over time.
  • 2.0 points for each additional rule violation (to be determined by the Contest Director).
