The United States Army Old Guard Fife & Drum Corps
The United States Army Old Guard Fife and Drum Corps is the only unit of its kind in the armed forces and is part of the 3rd U.S. Infantry Regiment. The corps recalls the days of the American Revolution as it performs in uniforms patterned after those worn by the musicians of General George Washington’s Continental Army. Military musicians of the period wore the reverse colors of the regiments to which they were assigned. The uniforms worn by members of the Corps are dated circa 1784, consisting of black tricorn hats, white wigs, waistcoats, colonial coveralls, and distinct red regimental coats. The 69-member Corps uses 10-hole fifes, handmade rope-tensioned drums and three-valve bugles. In support of the President, the Corps performs at all Armed-Forces Arrival ceremonies for visiting dignitaries and heads of state at the White House, and has participated in every Presidential Inaugural since President John F. Kennedy’s in 1961.

We would like to showcase the musical heritage of The U.S. Army Old Guard Fife and Drum Corps and Drums & Fifes of the Netherlands Marine Corps while exploring the chronological diffusion of Rudimental Drumming across cultures. Seeing how PASIC is an international convention we think it is appropriate and fortuitus to collaborate with a foreign military ensemble. People are the keepers of traditions and everyone in the room is a stakeholder in this art form. Our plan is to emphasize the importance and impact of drummers taking responsibility for preserving and propagating this art form. In addition to the joint clinic/performance we would also like be included for a small portion of the Drummer’s Heritage Concert and the “Rope Drop” event for the opening of the Expo Hall, as we have done in the past. These ancillary events help the Fife and Drum Corps justify participation to senior leaders within the Army and support the expense of sending our group to PASIC.
