“Bringing the Pulse of Flamenco to the Cajón: A Rhythmic Exploration”
Flamenco’s rhythmic tradition, rooted in its distinct palos (styles), offers a dynamic way to explore the interplay of rhythm, melody, and cultural identity through percussion. This hands-on clinic, led by acclaimed percussionist Kassandra Kocoshis—who has performed with artists like Carmela Greco, Jose Cortés "Pansequito Hijo," Alfonso Cid, Paco Fonta, Las Guitarras de España, and Ensemble Español—introduces participants to flamenco’s rhythmic depth.
Key focus areas include Flamenco Melodies and Composition, where attendees will explore how melodies are structured and accompanied in traditional settings; Cajón Grooves, highlighting essential rhythms like bulerías, soleá, and fandangos using traditional cajón techniques; and Palmas Clapping Rhythms, which delves into the intricate hand-clapping patterns that form flamenco’s rhythmic backbone.
Participants will gain practical skills on the cajón, improve rhythmic accuracy, and deepen their understanding of flamenco’s cultural roots, enhancing their overall musicianship through immersive rhythm-based learning.
