Nino Masayuki’s new work for solo snare drum is a welcome addition to the ever-growing literature. It is refreshing to encounter a work for snare drum that, in the composer’s words, “requires the player’s expression, not extreme technique.” Therefore, this piece does not fall into the “fast and loud” category.
