Rich with energy and tasteful textural shifts, “Fandango 13” is a six-minute work for six players that is essentially built around a marimba quartet, but orchestrated in such a way to exploit a much bigger sound and presence. Four of the six parts are playable with only two mallets, and the few instances of 4-mallet technique is limited to simple block chord figures.
