A choro, originally called chorinho (“little cry”), is an instrumental style of Brazilian popular music. Although the name can translate to a “small lament,” the character of a choro is often happy, associated with fast, syncopated rhythms and characterized by virtuosity, improvisation, subtle modulations, and counterpoint.
