I found a refreshingly new style of marimba composition in this piece. It has all the usual tricks and twists (rubato playing, permutation grooves, independent motion from each hand), but this piece takes on a mind of its own, and with its jazzy waltz feel becomes a very expressive composition in a non-threatening “concertizing” way.
