Steve Smith, a drum historian, traces the roots of drums in the U.S. popular music. He presents his findings at a PASIC clinic where he discusses drum techniques and the basics of drum set. In his clinic, he goes back to the basic elements of playing the snare drum and using brushes and sticks. Smith is changing the widely held perception of snare drums as being mainly for the 2 and 4 backbeat.
