Mel Lewis is one of the most sensitive and musical accompanists in jazz. An innovative big band drummer, Mel’s unique style was an integral part of the “West Coast” sound of the 1950’s in the bands of Stan Kenton, Terry Gibbs, and Gerry Mulligan.
