SESSION TITLE: Performance of “Deluge for flute, percussion, and fixed electronics” by Josh Clausen
Tammy Evans, an Atlanta native, is a flutist, collaborative musician, writer, and professor. She is a dedicated new music performer who is particularly interested in the commissioning and teaching of new music. Dr. Evans has commissioned over two dozen works involving flute, many with a specific focus on creating new music for the Glissando Headjoint. A first-prize winner of the Atlanta Flute Club Young Artist Competition, she holds degrees in flute performance from Kennesaw State University (BM), Indiana University (MM), and the University of Georgia (DMA). She is a Powell Flutes Artist.
Aaron Ragsdale is Director of Percussion at South Dakota State University where he teaches applied percussion and percussion pedagogy, conducts the SDSU Percussion Ensemble, and serves as Assistant Director with the Pride of the Dakotas Marching Band. A native of Fayetteville, Arkansas, Aaron holds a DMA from Rutgers University, a Master of Music degree from the University of Arkansas, and a Bachelor’s Degree in Music Education from the University of Oklahoma. His teachers have included She-e Wu, Bob Becker, Alan Abel, Richard Gipson, and Chalon Ragsdale. He lives in Brookings, SD with his wife, Ashley, and children, Olivia and Harrison.
Evans and Ragsdale began performing together when they were both faculty members at South Dakota State University in Brookings, SD. Their collaborations run the gamut from traditional flute and percussion duos to largescale original interdisciplinary pieces incorporating theatrical lighting, visual art, narration and dance. In the spring of 2019, they undertook a project commissioning a series of works for performance and recording that explored the extraordinary acoustical environment of the Tank Center for the Sonic Arts in Rangely, CO. The resulting pieces can be heard on “Resonance,” available on the Bandcamp platform.
