ABOUT Nick Terry

Nick Terry is a percussionist and educator specializing in contemporary classical chamber music. Currently based in Los Angeles, his multi-faceted creative output has received critical acclaim from the Recording Academy (winner, 57th and 62nd Grammy Awards; official nominee 55th Grammy Awards), Percussive Arts Society (invited performer 2013, 2017, 2018, 2023, 2024 International Conventions), iTunes (2014 Best of Classical Music), and National Public Radio (2017’s Top 10 Classical Albums). His music has been called “mesmerizing, atmospheric, and supremely melodic” by the New York Times, and “representing the next generation in the evolution of modern percussion” by Pierre Boulez. 

Nick performs with several critically hailed 501c3 non-profit chamber music organizations in Southern California, including the Los Angeles Percussion Quartet, Brightwork Newmusic, and Partch Ensemble, and he appears regularly with the Los Angeles Philharmonic’s New Music and Percussion groups at the Walt Disney Concert Hall in downtown LA. Nick is a five-year alumnus of the Lucerne Festival Academy (Switzerland), where he apprenticed with members of Ensemble Intercontemporain (IRCAM, Paris), Pierre Boulez, Peter Eötvös, and Fritz Hauser, among others. Dr. Terry received degrees in music performance from the University of Southern California’s Thornton School of Music, Herb Alpert School of Music at CalArts, and Eastern Illinois University. He is supported by artist endorsements from Yamaha Corporation, Sabian Cymbals, REMO, Black Swamp Percussion, and Innovative Percussion sticks and mallets. Currently, he serves as Director of Percussion Studies and Associate Professor at Chapman University’s Hall-Musco Conservatory of Music.
