Mark Reilly and Dave Loyal

Dave Loyal was raised in Fredericksburg, Virginia, and spent 12 years serving in the United States Army Old Guard Fife and Drum Corps— the Official Escort to the President of the United States.

During his time with the Old Guard and Beyond, Dave has performed internationally with renowned ensembles including the Middlesex County Volunteers, the Greycoats, and the Grand Republic Fife and Drum Corps. His performances have spanned the globe, including appearances at the Edinburgh Military Tattoo (Sydney), The Basel Tattoo, and the Oslo Tattoo.

He currently performs with The Grand Republic Fife and Drum Corps, continuing his commitment to the living tradition of American traditional music.

Chief Executive Office and Senior Producer of the Washington Tattoo, J. “Mark” Reilly is considered by many to be one of the most effective military music connectors in the world. As an internationally recognized performer, speaker, educator, consultant and producer, Mark’s 20 plus years of experience has allowed him to travel the world extensively working at the state and royal level. His work has been showcased at the White House, London’s Royal Albert Hall, Edinburgh Castle, the Vatican and a myriad of other iconic international locations.

Mark has presented at such prestigious institutions such as the Amsterdam Conservatory, the Royal College of Music, CODARTS, Boston Conservatory, Ohio State University, University of Iowa, Texas Christian University and the University of Music and Performing Arts in Vienna, Austria. His collaborative work with legendary performing units such as the Top Secret Drum Corps, His Majesty’s The King’s Guard of Norway, the Swiss Army Central Band, the Singapore Armed Forces Central Band, Her Majesty’s Royal Marines, The Royal Marines of the Netherlands, the Finnish Conscript Band, de la Garde republican and the Pontifical Swiss Guard has given him vast experience in international cultural events, concerts, and festivals.

Serving as the Marching Percussion committee chairman from 2015 – 2020 for the Percussive Arts Society, Mark aided in the planning and organizing of the Percussive Arts Society International Convention (PASIC), the world’s largest percussion convention. He holds degrees in music education from Northwestern State and Boston Universities, is endorsed by the British Drum Company, REMO Drumheads, Innovative Percussion, Sabian Cymbals, Prologix, Loyal Drums, and Büchler Trommelbau and is a guest lecturer / adjunct professor at West Virginia University.
Rudimental Marching Workshop

Session Description:

Join facilitators Mark Reilly and Dave Loyal, veterans of the U.S. Army’s “Old Guard” Fife & Drum Corps (Official Escort to the President of the United States), for a dynamic interactive workshop focused on some of the world’s most iconic rudimental drumming solos.

Together participants will explore phrase by phrase, the style, approach, heritage, and artistry of rudimental drumming.

Bring your sticks and pads and be ready to play!

You’ll learn legendary solos such as Connecticut Halftime, Downfall of Paris, Crazy Army, and more in this interactive session, allowing you to be a step ahead of the game during Friday evening’s official PASIC 50 Pad Jam at 10 PM.
