Latin Percussion Celebrates Diamond Anniversary with The Launch of Limited Edition 60th Congas, Bongos, Timbales and Cajon
Sixty years ago it began with a simple set of bongos! Martin Cohen, founder of Latin Percussion (LP), fell in love with the infectious nature of Latin-Jazz and when he could not find any bongos, he decided to make some – the traditional way, and LP was born. Building on the company’s legacy of authenticity, innovation, and quality, LP are delighted to launch the 60th Anniversary Congas, Bongos, Timbales and Cajon.
The limited-edition set of 60th Anniversary Congas are constructed of fiberglass to pay tribute to LP’s original drums and Top-Tuning Comfort Curve II rims representing the company’s latest evolution in conga technology. The set consists of an 11” Quinto, 11 ¾” Conga and a 12 ½” Tumba. Each drum shell is hand-painted with Roasted Hazel finish ensuring each drum is unique. They are emblazoned with a commemorative LP60 badge and complemented by select black, rawhide heads, and Rustic Bronze-plated hardware. When played they produce a deep resonant bass with cutting highs.
Made to match the 60th Anniversary Congas, the limited-edition 60th Anniversary Bongos (LP200XF-60) are built using Kevlar reinforced fibreglass, feature Comfort Curve II rims, and 5/16” tension rods, have a hand-painted, Roasted Hazel finish with black, rawhide heads, and Rustic Bronze-plated hardware. The pair of 7-¼” and 8-5/8” drums offer a crisp and resonant tone.
The 60th Anniversary Groove Cajon (LP1427-60) is also made to coordinate with the 60th Anniversary Congas with its hand-painted Roasted Hazel finish and Rustic Bronze soundboard finish. Measuring 18-½” by 11” by 10-¼” it is crafted from hand-selected Baltic Birch and features rounded corners for comfortable play. Its distinctive bright, punchy sound has a strong attack and fast decay.
Also produced for this diamond celebration are the matching 60th Anniversary Timbales (LP1415-60). The 14” and 15” steel shell drums feature rolled out bottoms, a tribute to LP’s original drums, and the latest Top-Tuning Comfort Curve II rims The shells are finished in Antique Bronze with Rustic Bronze hardware giving the timbales a retro feel with a modern twist.

Launches 60th Anniversary Cabasa and Vibra-Slap III to commemorate sixty amazing years Latin Percussion (LP) expands its much-loved percussion range with the addition of the 60th Anniversary Afuche / Cabasa and newly updated Vibra-Slap III.
The LP Vibra-Slap was the first patent granted to the company some sixty years ago and the sharp rattling sound it produces has appeared in more recordings, soundtracks and advertisements than any other sound effect ever made. The updated Vibra-Slap III (LP208X) is made using LP’s proprietary Jenigor, a nearly unbreakable plastic which has been used in Jam Blocks for decades. The latest version features a new ‘Strike Zone’ which allows the instrument to be played by hand or drumstick. The Vibra-Slap Mount (LP444N) is available separately.
LP’s second patent, the Afuche / Casaba has become an indispensable percussion instrument. This original instrument is made by wrapping a steel bead chain around a specially textured, stainless-steel cylinder to produce a multitude of scraping rhythmic patterns. The 60th Anniversary Afuche / Cabasa(LP234-60) is black emblazoned with the red LP60 logo.

SABIAN
SABIAN Introduces 22” HHX BFMWORLD Ride
SABIAN is proud to announce the release of the 22” HHX BFM World Ride cymbal.
Developed in collaboration with Brian Frasier-Moore and the artisans at SABIAN, the 22” HHX BFMWORLD Ride is a medium weight ride cymbal with a large, clear, cutting bell. Its proprietary HHX Tone Control hammering creates large, deep hammer marks that result in its stunning visual appearance and amazing tone.
“The design of my Signature ride is catered to those that love a crystal-clear bell and a multi-purpose surface,” said Frasier-Moore. “The surface is washable as well as articulate, while the jumbo hammer does something really special to the tone.”
The BFMWORLD Ride incorporates a sound control edge, which lowers the profile of the cymbal and adds crash-ability, resulting in a ride with clear presence and attack. This feature allows you to crash the cymbal and immediately return to playing the bow without losing a note.
“This part of the design is a nod to Chester Thompson, whose Signature Liquid Ride has always been a favorite of mine,” Frasier- Moore said. “With the edges turned up a bit, it gives you control when you’re laying into the ride. Growing up playing in church I remember my ride always being multi-purpose. 30 years later, nothing’s changed!”
The SABIAN 22” HHX BFM World Ride is shipping now.
