PASIC 2021 Virtual Sessions
PASIC 2021 Virtual Sessions

November 4, 2021
PAS is excited to offer a full slate of unique PASIC virtual sessions, complementing the in-person convention. We know many of you are unable to travel to Indianapolis this year, and we are thrilled to provide some great clinics and performances to allow all of you, no matter your location, a way to experience PASIC. Virtual PASIC has been designed to highlight artists who were unable to perform in Indianapolis, with no duplicates of in-person sessions, and to give you the opportunity to watch sessions as your schedule permits. All sessions for Virtual PASIC will be available through Sunday, December 31, 2021.
International artists include Ramon Montagner from Brazil, who will be presenting “Rhythmic Imagination Book and New Uses of Multiple Sticking.” Montagner is a percussionist who for many years played with singer, composer, and bossa nova icon Johnny Alf, and who has also released multiple books and albums.
Another session with Brazilian roots is Bernardo Aguiar and Brian Potts, who will be offering a clinic titled “Pandeiro Moderno — Unlocking the “Pocket Drum Set.”
David Valdés, known for his work on translating key percussion literature into Spanish, as well as a general interest in early music, will present a clinic on the Asturian percussion instruments used in Rimsky-Korsakov’s “Capriccio Espagnol,” which will also include explanations of the different dances referenced in the piece.
A little closer to home, PAS is also excited to host a performance by Recap, a new group from Mantra Percussion, Inc. Recap is Arlene Acevedo, Alexis Carter, Tiahna Sterling, and Aline Vasquez. Recently featured on NPR’s All Things Considered for their debut album Count to Five, on which all pieces performed were written by female composers, the members of Recap embrace their diverse backgrounds as well as the history and culture of their city to create a musical identity uniquely their own.
