Joseph Adato, born May 8, 1937, passed away on October 7, 2026, at the age of 89. A distinguished musician who lived a rich and active life, Joseph spent 44 years as a member of the Cleveland Orchestra, joining in 1962 during the tenure of George Szell. Earlier in his career, he performed with notable ensembles, including the New York Philharmonic and the New York City Ballet Orchestra. Following his retirement, he continued to find great joy in playing the marimba.

Above all, Joseph was devoted to his family. He is survived by his beloved wife of 61 years, Judith; his children, Leon,Marc, and Aaron; as well as seven grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.

In honor of his life and career, contributions may be made to the Cleveland Orchestra.
