Most people have seen movies where a drill sergeant yells “Left, Left, Left- Right-Left,” using a rhythm of two half notes, two quarter notes, and one half note. According to the foreword by David Bergman, Principal Percussionist in the West Point Band, this is known as “heavy left.” David Reeves was drawn to this concept, making it the theme of this four-solo collection.
